MORPHMET

The morphometrics mailing list

The on-line mailing list morphmet provides a forum for the exchange of ideas, references, and queries about Morphometrics - the study of form, shape and size, in organisms. Appropriate contributions include: queries and statements about morphometric methods and philosophy, new references or queries about the literature, announcements for relevant meetings, and relevant job announcements or needs. The list is moderated with a rather liberal view as to what constitutes appropriate content.

To subscribe:

Send a message to morphmet-request@morphometrics.org with Subject: "subscribe". The system is smart enough to get your name and address from the received message. DO NOT send the request directly to the list!

To unsubscribe:

Send a message to morphmet-request@morphometrics.org with Subject: "unsubscribe". DO NOT send the request directly to the list!

Also, you can always contact the moderator to address any problems subscribing or unsubscribing from the list.

Posting:

Messages to the list may be sent directly to morphmet@morphometrics.org.

Messages from the list will come from "morphmet <morphmet_moderator@morphometrics.org>" - not the original poster. This means that you must provide your e-mail address as part of the message if you would like people to be able to reply to you directly. Letting people reply to you directly will greatly increase the likelihood that your message will receive a response. If you receive many helpful messages directly then you may wish to send a summary of them to the list.

Replies will go to to the entire list via the moderator. This is a chance to avoid embarassing, unintentional personal posts (such as replying to the entire list when you only intended to reply to the original author), but it is not necessarily foolproof.

You need not be a member of the list to send a query or comment to the moderator.

Security:

Name and addressing information in the original mail header will not be forwarded (intentionally) to the list. Posters choosing to provide this information may do so in a signature that will be passed along with the body of the message. However, no one will be able to respond to you directly unless you provide that information as part of your e-mail message. Members frequently will try to reply directly to the poster, and find it frustrating if the poster did not provide an email address.

Only the moderator has access to the list membership.

These two features have been put in place to provide some degree of protection for the membership's email addresses.

Archiving:

The new address will require a separate archive as of 13, November 2004. Archiving is at http://www.mail-archive.com. Or, you can access the archive directly at http://www.mail-archive.com/morphmet%40morphometrics.org/. Email addresses are masked in the archive.

The archive of all postings from 9 July 2002 to 10 November 2004 is available from http://www.mail-archive.com/morphmet%40wfubmc.edu. Note that this list is considered "inactive" by the archive server and will not appear in the results of a list search from the home page.

The archive of postings from March 1991 to April 2002 to the previous CUNY listserv is available from http://listserv.cuny.edu/archives/morphmet.html.
